Melvyn initially formed the practice in March
1988 and was soon joined by Denise. Before engaging in public practice he worked
for the Inland Revenue (now HM Revenue & Customs) from 1976 to 1988, dealing mainly with Income Tax,
Capital Gains Tax and Corporation Tax, along with some deep dark lost secrets of
taxation such as earned income relief, investment income surcharge, family
allowance and family allowance deduction adjustments! Just before he left the Inland Revenue, he was
working as a Tax Investigator.
Initially and in tandem with his own practice,
he acted as a consultant for three firms of Chartered Accountants as a taxation consultant.
He still gives tax advice to a local accountancy firm and other professionals.
In recent years Melvyn has computerised the
practice and being a member of the Chartered Institute for IT, ensures that we
use the latest HM Revenue & Customs approved software for the
production and electronic submission of Self Assessment and Corporation Tax returns and Payroll
Administration. He is also the author and
designer of this website and has implemented a paperless office.
Melvyn's observations on tax have been quoted
on Radio 4 and in the Times newspaper.
